History

The Rouquette Library provides access to more than 40,000 print books; 200,000 digital books; 110 current print serials; 5400 bound print serials; 98,000,000 full text digital articles; and 2,000 audios and videos.

The library is named in honor of Père Adrien Emmanuel Rouquette, who was the first native of Louisiana to become a diocesan priest and a published writer in the language of the Choctaw Indians, whom he evangelized in Saint Tammany Parish. He died in 1887.

Honors

In September of 2019, the new Rouquette Library building received an Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Louisiana Chapter in recognition of its excellence in design.

In March 2014, an article written by Rouquette Library staff, "Love of Learning and the Desire for God: Information Literacy through Pastoral Formation," was published in the peer-reviewed journal, Catholic Library World. The article will be reprinted in the fall 2014 issue of Seminary Journal.

In the fall of 2012, Rouquette Library's User Education Program was commended by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The association was "impressed by the Information Literacy Competency Assessment organized through the library. The institution deserves kudos for having a personalized information literacy plan for every single student and addressing it according to the needs of the student."
