Saint Joseph Seminary College (SJSC) administers the Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Direct Loans Program, and the State of Louisiana TOPS Scholarship Program.

All students who will be completing their first degree are encouraged to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine which awards they are eligible for. The form may be completed online at fafsa.ed.gov. Students without access to the Internet or who wish to discuss other options may contact our office for assistance. A new FAFSA must be submitted each academic year.

The School code for SJSC is 002027. This code must be entered on the FAFSA where it asks for the designated college that the student will be attending. Once the FAFSA has been completed please send us an e-mail to let us know that it has been submitted.

The FAFSA should be submitted prior to student arrival on campus each Fall semester to allow for timely processing. It becomes available on October 1st each year for the upcoming academic year. You will receive notification via email once your FAFSA has been reviewed and your awards have been packaged.  Any awards received will be applied directly to your student bill to cover tuition, room, and board charges.  Remaining amounts will be issued in the form of a refund check to the student or to the parent (refunds to the parent are applicable only in the case of a Parent PLUS Loan).

Any scholarships, loans, or grants that students receive from private sources must be reported to the financial aid office in order to be added to your award package.  Award packages may not exceed your annual cost of attendance.  Cost of attendance will be listed on the award letter you receive once your aid is packaged.

Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP) in order to remain eligible for federal financial aid each year.  SAP details may be viewed here.

Students who withdraw prior to completing 60% of the semester may be obligated to return unearned portions of financial aid.  The withdrawal and Return to Title IV (R2T4) policy may be found here.

The first time you make a loan at Saint Joseph Seminary College you are required by the Department of Education Direct Loan Program to complete the Entrance Counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note.  This note is good while you are attending SJSC.  Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the website https://studentloans.gov and click on the COMPLETE ENTRANCE COUNSELING link;

  2. From the same website, click on the link COMPLETE LOAN AGREEMENT FOR A SUBSIDIZED/UNSUBSIDIZED LOAN (MPN);

  3. Notify the financial aid office once Entrance Counseling and the Master Promissory Note have been completed.

Likewise, when you graduate or withdraw from SJSC you must complete Exit Counseling if you have made a loan through the Financial Aid Office using the Dept of Education loan system.

  1. Go to  https://studentloans.gov and click on the COMPLETE EXIT COUNSELING link;

  2. Notify the financial aid office once this has been completed.

PLUS Loans are available for parents of dependent students needing additional loan assistance. Parents must submit an application for the PLUS Loan at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action. They will click on the Parent Borrower's section and then click the link "Apply for a PLUS Loan." If the loan is approved, they may borrow the remaining amount needed up to the student's cost of attendance (minus other aid received). The parent must also submit a Master Promissory Note. This may be done by clicking on the Complete LOAN AGREEMENT FOR A PLUS LOAN (MPN) link from the parent borrower's section of the studentloans.gov website. If the parent's loan application is denied, then the student may be eligible to borrow additional unsubsidized loans.

A new FAFSA must be submitted each academic year.

Transfer students should notify us of any pre-existing federal student loans in order to request a loan deferment.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any questions regarding financial obligations while attending Saint Joseph Seminary College or financial aid.
